Comments and Testimonials from some of the awesome clientele we have hosted on Barrys Wine Tours Auckland.
All 10 of us had such a great day. Barry's knowledge & passion of Auckland & the local wineries had us interested from start to finish.
We had an informative tour of Soljins Winery with tastings of their various wines, followed by a beautiful lunch. Loved hearing about the Soljins family history.
Before heading on our way to the next Winery, Barry entertained us with a general knowledge quiz. I think we all managed to answer at least 1 of the questions.
The Hunting Lodge was our next stop. Wow, their wines were so refreshingly different, I wanted to buy 1 of each.
Our last stop was at the Hallertau Brewery in Riverhead. The guys were really impressed that they were able to finish off with one of their very tasty beers.
Well done Barry. Your tour was fantastic. We appreciated all the thought you had put into it to make it enjoyable for everyone.
We will have to go on your Matakana tour next time
Wonderful wine experience with Barry
Barry provided a wonderful wine experience for our Conference group of 30 International visitors. Barry shared his knowledge & passion of wine with our group. The walk and talk around the vineyard was very informative, and the wine tasting was supurb. The food platters to accompany the wines at the Hunting Lodge were excellent. I would definately recommend Barry's wine tours to others. Thank you.
Being a non-wine drinker, a wine tour would be the perfect way to put my tastebuds to the test. Booked by my friend who also came on the tour, I didn't really have any expectations as this was my first tour.
To quote Barry's note...Wow!
With some close family connections he told stories and showed us places I'm convinced we would never have had the privilege of hearing/seeing if it wasn't for Barry. So passionate and involved it was contagious.
Apart from his family's estate Soljans we also visited Westbrook, Kumeu and the brewery Hallertau.
But the highlight on the tour for me was the Hunting Lodge Winery. In a spectacular setting we were treated to an amazing tasting session. Again thanks to Barry's connections, this time his son-in-law, we had a great time with some very entertaining stories told.
I would highly recommend this tour of the West Auckland wineries to anyone, wine lover or not.
One thing that I can say for sure after this tour is that I don't like red wine, not yet anyway ;-)

What stood out for us is the range of family and other contacts that Barry has and employs to make his tour a little different to the average.
Our first port of call,to the Soljan Winery is a family tie which meant we were able to stroll around the winery production areas where they were busy disgorging, not something I have ever actually seen before. In truth,it was not the best tasting experience we have had but the lunch was good.
The highlight of the day for me was the Kemeu River winery where apart from a first class tasting we also got to meet " Melba " one the original owners of the winery and she is a real lady !
However, our " bonus " tour to the Hunters Lodge " Winery and another family connection was the surprise of the tour.A new winery that I had never heard of producing some first class wines and an informed and enthusiastic tasting.
We also went to the Westbrook Winery and a craft brewery ! Quite a day.

We traveled up from Cambridge, met Barry at the airport and he guided us through four of the best wineries in West Auckland. Being Chardonnay fans we were in 7th Heaven. Barry was such a good host with good knowledge of the wines, and the families that make them. This was my second time, and I would go back again!!

Finding a friendly tour guide is easy. Finding a tour guide who is connected, knowledgeable, professional, accomodating or fairly priced is not too hard either.
Finding someone who is *all* of these things and more is considerably harder.
Great meals, great wineries (and breweries) and great fun is what follows. Thanks Barry for not only living up to your advertising but going well above and beyond to make a special day.
We were waiting in the taxi line leaving our cruise ship and spotted Barry's van. We had been planning to rent a car and explore on our own. Instead we went on Barry's tour and it was wonderful. We visited 4 wineries and had tastings at each We had a gourmet lunch at one. We are all 'foodies' and the quality was excellent. Our last stop before being dropped at the airport was a craft brewery. We never would have seen any of these spots or learned so much about the Auckland area, its people and wine industry if we ventured out on our own. Barry has never met a stranger and has an abundance of knowledge that he shares with his guests. The price was a very good value for what we received. I would highly recommend this if you have a long day in Auckland.

Barry was very engaging and willing to be flexible for our friends and my husband and me. Barry added stops at two wineries so we wouldn't get to the airport way too early. He also drove around the scenic drives for us. He is a wine insider, related to or knows everyone, took us to small boutique wineries. So glad we changed our plans from a self drive tour to letting Barry take us to wineries and lunch.

We met up with Barry after departing our cruise ship. Spent the entire day visiting wineries and seeing the sights of Auckland. Barry is very knowledgeable about wine and Auckland. He is also kind and patient. We had a great time at Soljans and they served a great lunch. It is easy to see that Barry loves what he is doing and that makes the trip even more enjoyable. Would do it again in a minute.
